Our founder’s path to electrification
Owen’s road to HVAC was anything but conventional, but one thing has always stayed the same: a passion for teaching and developing young people.
Owen spent nearly a decade in Ecuador teaching math and helping launch a national football league, coaching and mentoring.
Five years ago, he returned to California and continued teaching math in East Oakland.
Then one day, Owen felt a pull to do something different. He decided to start his own company and bring everything he’d learned as a teacher and coach into the trades.
Today, he runs 1-888-Heat-Pumps the same way he ran his classroom: with patience, high standards, and a commitment to helping people grow.

A family legacy. A community mission.
Owen trained at the Champion Technician Institute and leaned on his father, John — a general contractor of 40 years — as a mentor in the trade.
When he founded 1-888-Heat-Pumps in 2023, he brought his teaching background full circle, building a transparent, skills-based curriculum for installers that gives young people entering the trades a genuine career path — not just a job.
It's a company built to strengthen the Bay Area community it calls home, one home, one career, and one heat pump at a time.

Kye’s Climate Action Fund
In memory of Kye Moffat (BHS Graduate) and his tireless dedication to combating climate issues, we stand behind this initiative.
We hope that Kye's life becomes a source of inspiration, encouraging others to consider impactful ways to address climate change.
Mission:
To provide financial, mentorship, and community support to young people seeking to combat the climate crisis through science, technology, policy, or activism.
Initiatives we support
Owen is the former JV Head Coach for the Berkeley High Football Team and in collaboration with 1-888, we proudly support the success of BHS Athletics, both on the field and off.
Your contribution helps fund equipment, uniforms, senior night decorations, food for players, the end-of-season banquet, and more aspects of Berkeley High Athletics.
Most programs have families and players asking for fundraising, all we would like to do is our part in helping make our Youth's sports experiences that much more successful and great!
